3,000 Weeks of Service
That's not a typo. Three thousand consecutive weeks. Roughly fifty-eight years of net controllers showing up, keying the mic, and calling for check-ins.
The Hazel Park Amateur Radio Club's Sunday night net has run continuously since the late 1960s. Think about what that means: it started before the first moon landing, kept going through the introduction of the personal computer, the rise of the internet, multiple wars, recessions, blackouts, ice storms, and a global pandemic. Through every one of those weeks, someone sat down at a radio and ran the net.
Anyone who has ever served as net control knows it isn't glamorous work. It's a quiet commitment — preparing announcements, listening carefully, keeping things moving, and being there week after week whether two people check in or twenty. Multiply that effort across thousands of Sunday nights and dozens of dedicated operators, and you get something genuinely rare.
On behalf of Macomb County ARPSC, congratulations to W8HP and the entire Hazel Park Amateur Radio Club. Thank you for setting the standard for what consistent, community-minded amateur radio looks like. We're proud to join you on the air for Net 3,000.
